As Harry Kane prepares to make his 100th appearance for England in the UEFA Nations League Group B2 home game against Finland on Tuesday, the striker has set his sights on emulating the career longevity of Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
At a press conference on Monday, the 31-year-old Kane expressed his ambition to play into his late thirties, drawing inspiration from Ronaldo, who, at 39, continues to make history on the pitch. Ronaldo netted the 901st goal of his illustrious career during Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Scotland on September 8.
“I feel in really good shape,” Kane said. “I feel both physically and mentally at a peak in my career. Just watching other players like Ronaldo scoring his 901st goal yesterday and seeing him compete at 38, 39 years old just inspires me to play for as long as possible.”
Kane acknowledged the influence of both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on his career, noting that their legendary rivalry defined an era in football. “I grew up looking up to both Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” he added.
As he stands on the cusp of a century of caps for England, Kane is focused on contributing to his national team’s success while also carving out a lasting legacy of his own.
