Jiang Yuyan and Di Dongdong have been chosen to carry China’s flag at the closing ceremony of the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, as announced by the Chinese delegation on Friday.
The selection of these two outstanding athletes comes after their remarkable performances at this year’s Paralympic Games. Jiang Yuyan, a swimming sensation, clinched seven gold medals, breaking two individual world records and setting three Paralympic records in the women’s 100-meter backstroke S6, women’s 100-meter freestyle S6, and women’s 50-meter freestyle S6 events.
Adding to her accolades, Jiang teamed up with Peng Qiuping, Yuan Weiyi, and Guo Jincheng to dominate the 4×50-meter freestyle relay 20 points final, setting a new world record with a time of 2:14.98.
Di Dongdong shone in athletics, securing a gold medal in the men’s long jump T11 event with a world-record leap of 6.85 meters. He also earned a bronze medal in the men’s 100-meter T11 race, showcasing his versatility and dedication.
The closing ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games will take place at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis on Sunday. Jiang and Di’s role as flag bearers symbolizes China’s commitment to excellence in para sports and celebrates the athletes’ extraordinary achievements on the global stage.
