Jiang Yuyan Shatters World Record as China Dominates Day 7 at Paris Paralympics

On the seventh day of the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, China continued its remarkable performance, securing nine gold medals to maintain a commanding lead at the top of the medal table.

Among the standout athletes was Chinese swimmer Jiang Yuyan, who claimed her fourth gold medal in just seven days. Competing in the women’s 100m freestyle S7 final, Jiang delivered a breathtaking performance, touching the wall at 1:09.68 and breaking her own world record of 1:10.86 set the previous year.

“I am excited. It’s amazing. I didn’t think I could do this, but I did it,” said the 19-year-old champion, beaming with pride. With four golds already in the bag and two events still to come, Jiang’s Paralympic journey is far from over.

Jiang’s path to glory hasn’t been easy. After losing her right arm and leg in a car accident at the age of four, she refused to let adversity define her. “I have never felt sorry for myself,” she shared. “I have never felt there was any difficult time in my life.”

Her resilience and determination were evident as she qualified for the final with the third-fastest time in the heats, only to surpass expectations in the evening’s final. Jiang, who previously earned two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze at the Tokyo Paralympic Games three years ago, continues to inspire athletes and fans around the world.

China’s success on Day 7 highlights the nation’s strength in para sports and its athletes’ dedication. As the Paris Paralympics continue, all eyes will be on the Chinese team to see if they can sustain their momentum and set new records.
