Cristiano Ronaldo Considers Retiring at Al Nassr but Aims to Continue with Portugal

After launching his third season with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he may conclude his illustrious career there. In an interview with Portuguese channel NOW, the 39-year-old football legend said, “I don’t know if I will retire soon, in two or three years, but probably I will retire here at Al Nassr. I’m very happy at this club; I feel good in this country too. I’m happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue.”

Despite contemplating retirement at Al Nassr, Ronaldo expressed his desire to continue representing Portugal on the international stage. “Right now, what I want is to be able to help the national team in their upcoming matches,” he stated. “We have the Nations League ahead of us, and I would really like to play.” Portugal reached the quarterfinals at Euro 2024 in Germany before being eliminated by France.

When asked about the possibility of transitioning into a coaching role after retirement, Ronaldo dismissed the idea for the time being. “At the moment, I’m not thinking about being a coach of the first team or any team,” he said. “It doesn’t even cross my mind; I’ve never thought about it. I don’t see my future going through that. I see myself doing other things outside of football, but only God knows what the future holds.”

In the latest match of the 2024-25 Saudi Pro League season, Al Nassr secured their first victory by defeating Al Fayha 4-1 at Al Majma’ah Sports City. Ronaldo played a pivotal role, assisting Talisca’s opening goal in the fifth minute and then extending the lead to 2-0 by scoring a powerful free kick during first-half stoppage time.

Marcelo Brozovic added a third goal for Al Nassr in the 85th minute. Although Fashon Sakala pulled one back for Al Fayha two minutes later, Talisca sealed the win for the visitors with his second goal in the 95th minute, capping off an emphatic performance.
