China’s Hong Kong SAR Sends 23 Athletes to 2024 Paris Summer Paralympics

China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) is preparing to make a significant impact at the 2024 Paris Summer Paralympics, set to begin on August 28. A delegation of 23 athletes will represent the SAR, competing across eight sports including archery, badminton, swimming, and athletics.

Delegation head Leung Lai Yin expressed enthusiasm about the team’s potential during a press conference on Friday. “Some of our athletes will compete at the Paralympics for the first time in their careers,” Leung said. “We expect them to be in their best form and showcase their best efforts in Paris.”

Among the promising talents is 14-year-old swimmer Ng Cheuk-yan, poised to become the youngest para-athlete in the team’s history. She made a splash at the Para Swimming World Series in Singapore this May, securing three gold and two bronze medals.

“I felt so excited when I won titles at the major international tournament,” Ng shared with reporters. “I need to arrange my time for both school and preparation for the Paralympics in a balanced way, so time distribution is important to me. I want to be in my best form at the Para Games.”

The participation of China’s Hong Kong SAR athletes underscores the region’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and excellence in sports. As they gear up for Paris, the delegation aims to inspire and bring pride to the people of the SAR and the broader Asian community.
