China Hails Record-Breaking Medal Haul at 2024 Paris Olympics

China’s central authorities have extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation’s Olympic delegation for their outstanding performance at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. In a joint message, the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council praised the athletes for their dedication and achievements, urging them to continue striving towards making China a strong sporting nation.

The Chinese delegation concluded the Games with a historic medal haul of 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze medals. This achievement marks China’s best-ever performance at an overseas Olympics and propels the nation past the milestone of 300 Olympic gold medals since Xu Haifeng secured the first in the men’s free pistol event at the 1984 Los Angeles Games.

At a press conference following the Games, deputy heads of China’s Olympic delegation reflected on the team’s successes. Zhou Jinqiang, deputy head of the delegation, highlighted several key breakthroughs.

“We made three breakthroughs in this year’s Olympics,” Zhou stated. “First, we competed in more events than ever before, participating in 232 events across 30 sports. Second, we won more gold medals, surpassing our previous overseas records from the London and Tokyo Games. Third, we topped the podium in a greater variety of events, and our gold medalists come from more provinces across the country.”

Liu Guoyong, also a deputy head of the delegation, emphasized the integrity of the athletes amid external scrutiny regarding doping tests.

“We accomplished the goal of winning clean gold medals,” Liu said. “The Chinese swimming team fully adhered to international regulations and cooperated with high-frequency doping tests, with no positive cases detected. The Chinese government remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance policy toward doping, emphasizing moral conduct in achieving victories.”

The authorities’ message called on athletes to remain focused on building China into a strong sporting nation, striving for new heights in competitive sports, and contributing to the realization of China’s modernization and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The remarkable achievements in Paris not only reflect China’s growing prowess on the global sports stage but also inspire the nation to aim higher in future competitions.
