China Clinches Gold in Men’s Table Tennis, Ma Long Makes Olympic History

Dominating the competition, China clinched the gold medal in the men’s table tennis team event, defeating Sweden 3-0 on Friday.

This victory marks China’s successful defense of their Olympic title from Tokyo, maintaining an unbroken record in this event since it was introduced at the 2008 Beijing Games.

For Ma Long, China’s male flag-bearer at the opening ceremony, the win was particularly historic. By claiming his sixth gold medal, he now holds the record for the most golds won by any Chinese athlete in Olympic history.

Since table tennis became an Olympic sport in 1988, China has displayed unparalleled dominance, securing 32 out of the 37 available gold medals.
