China’s Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi Clinch Third Diving Gold at Paris 2024 Olympics

China’s dynamic diving duo, Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi, dazzled at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris on Wednesday, securing gold in the women’s synchronized 10-meter platform final. This victory marks the third diving gold for China at these Games and the seventh gold overall for the team.

The pair delivered an impeccable performance, amassing a total of 359.1 points over five dives. Their dominance was evident from the outset, establishing a 7.2-point lead (56.4-49.2) after the first round. They were the only team to break the 100-point barrier with an impressive 111 points in their second dive.

By the fourth round, Quan and Chen had extended their lead to nearly 40 points (276.54-238.14), leaving little doubt about the final outcome. Their final dive earned them 82.56 points, sealing their commanding victory.

Jo Jin Mi and Kim Mi Rae from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea claimed the silver medal with 315.9 points. The bronze went to Britain’s Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, who scored 304.38 points.

Chen Yuxi previously won this event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 alongside Zhang Jiaqi. In Tokyo, Quan Hongchan and Chen also competed against each other in the women’s individual 10-meter platform event, where Quan emerged victorious with Chen taking silver. Their collaboration in Paris showcases China’s depth of talent in diving and underscores their continued dominance in the sport.
