The USA men’s basketball team started their 2024 Paris Summer Olympics campaign with a resounding 110-84 victory over Serbia on Sunday, powered by a stellar performance from Kevin Durant.
Despite missing all five warm-up games due to a calf injury and having limited time to gel with his teammates, Durant showed no signs of rust. The “Slim Reaper” was unstoppable from the moment he stepped onto the court.
Durant made his first eight shots, including five three-pointers, racking up 23 points for the USA, with 21 of those points coming in the first half alone.
“I’ve been playing ball my whole life, so I simplified it,” Durant said after the game. “And when the ball touched my hand, I was aggressive.”
Meanwhile, new addition Joel Embiid faced challenges in finding his rhythm, contributing less than expected in his Olympic debut for the USA.
