CMG Unveils 10 Cutting-Edge Technologies for Paris 2024 Olympics

Beijing — The China Media Group (CMG) has unveiled a suite of ten self-developed technologies set to revolutionize the broadcasting of the upcoming 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. This announcement, made on Wednesday, marks a significant stride in the integration of advanced technology with international sports broadcasting.

For the first time, CMG will employ 4K ultra-high-definition and 3D audio effect technologies to present comprehensive coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as various sporting competitions. The group has established one media center and three television studios at the International Broadcast Center (IBC) in Paris, along with a location shooting site at the iconic Eiffel Tower, to facilitate this ambitious production.

In a groundbreaking move, CMG’s 8K broadcast vehicles have made their debut in Europe and will produce 8K international public signals during the Olympics. These state-of-the-art vehicles are equipped with 8K channel cameras, portable broadcast cameras, monitors, and IP switches, all domestically manufactured by Chinese enterprises, showcasing China’s growing prowess in high-end technology development.

Leveraging its media cloud and network capabilities, CMG is building a system with massive computing power and low latency to support program production across both television and digital platforms. This infrastructure enables the production team to collaborate seamlessly from any location, enhancing both the quality and efficiency of their work.

Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a pivotal role in CMG’s innovative approach. Integrated into the media cloud, AI assists in transcription writing, translation, dubbing, video editing, and analysis. Furthermore, CMG is utilizing AI to create digital avatars of guests participating in programs across studios in Beijing and Paris, adding a new dimension to international broadcasting.

AI technology will also enhance CMG’s filming and public signal production for events such as badminton, sport climbing, and artistic gymnastics. This will allow for the capture of more dynamic angles and precise highlights, bringing audiences closer to the action than ever before.

To cater to diverse audiences across China, CMG will leverage its extensive coverage network, known as “Bai Cheng Qian Ping” (“100 cities, 1,000 screens”), providing customized reports based on regional preferences and characteristics. This tailored approach ensures that viewers receive content that resonates with their local interests.

In addition, CMG is updating its digital platform, Yangshipin, ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Users will enjoy interactive features powered by AI, including text and voice interfaces. The platform will offer real-time news updates, medal tables, and competition results, enhancing the user experience for sports enthusiasts.

CMG has also released HarmonyOS versions of Yangshipin and CMG Sports, providing improved security, stability, and compatibility for users during the Olympics. The enhanced interaction between Yangshipin and television broadcasts will enable audiences to access high-quality video content on their devices and enjoy immersive 3D audio effects.

By integrating cutting-edge technology with comprehensive media coverage, CMG aims to deliver an unparalleled viewing experience for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, highlighting China’s commitment to innovation and excellence in global broadcasting.
