CMG Establishes National Institute for Esports Development in Beijing

The China Media Group (CMG) has inaugurated the National Institute for Esports Development in Beijing’s Xicheng District, marking a significant advancement in China’s growing esports industry.

Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and president of CMG, attended the establishment ceremony on Friday. He was joined by Sun Shuo, CPC Secretary of Xicheng District, and Xue Jijun, head of the institute, among other government officials.

Esports, a dynamic digital industry that blends sports, culture, technology, and media, is rapidly expanding within the digital economy. According to Xue, the institute’s establishment aligns with CMG’s strategic focus on “5G+4K/8K+AI” technologies and will significantly promote the development of esports events across China.

“We aim to enhance cooperation within the industry, expand overseas communication, and explore new methods of cultural exchange through the language of esports,” Xue stated.

Sun highlighted that the digital economy has become a vital engine for China’s high-quality economic growth and is an integral part of Xicheng District’s “4+N” development strategy. “Xicheng District will collaborate closely with the institute to optimize and stimulate the esports industry, building a national hub for animation, video games, and esports,” he said.

In a congratulatory letter, David Lappartient, chairperson of the IOC Esports Commission, emphasized the global mission to guide the sustainable development of the esports industry. He expressed confidence that the institute will further promote Olympic values by advancing esports in China.
