Spain Defeats France 2-1 as Teen Sensation Yamal Makes Euro History

In a thrilling semifinal at Euro 2024 on Tuesday, Spain secured a 2-1 victory over France, booking their place in the final. The match was marked by an outstanding performance from 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, who became the youngest-ever scorer in the tournament's history.

France struck first with a header from Randal Kolo Muani in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a precise cross from Kylian Mbappé, who played without the protective mask he'd worn since suffering a broken nose earlier in the tournament. However, Spain responded swiftly.

In the 21st minute, Yamal showcased his talent with a stunning goal, curling the ball from 25 yards past goalkeeper Mike Maignan and into the net off the left post. His historic goal not only leveled the score but also shifted the momentum in Spain's favor.

"We were in a difficult stretch after conceding early," Yamal said after the match. "I just took the ball and wanted to put it right there. I'm very happy to help the team."

Just four minutes later, Spain took the lead when Dani Olmo's shot deflected off French defender Jules Koundé into the net. Initially recorded as an own goal, UEFA later credited the goal to Olmo.

Despite France dominating possession in the second half, they were unable to break through Spain's defense. Late attempts by Theo Hernandez and Mbappé went off target, while Yamal nearly added another goal with a powerful strike that sailed just over the crossbar.

Spain, aiming for a record fourth European Championship title, will face either England or the Netherlands in the final on Sunday in Berlin.

"We are very close, just one more step to go," Olmo commented. "It is incredible what the team is doing. We deserve to be in the final, one step from glory."

France's coach Didier Deschamps acknowledged Spain's superior performance. "Even though we were fortunate to open the scoring, Spain made things difficult for us," he said. "They were superior in terms of control and technique. The team that gave the best impression was Spain. So they deserve to win tonight."

The match has garnered significant attention among football fans worldwide, including in Asia, where European football enjoys a massive following. The rise of young talents like Yamal continues to inspire aspiring footballers across the globe, highlighting the sport's universal appeal.
