Jasmine Paolini blazed into the Wimbledon semifinals on Tuesday, achieving a historic milestone as the first Italian woman to reach this stage at the prestigious grasscourt Grand Slam in the Open era. The seventh seed powered past American Emma Navarro with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory on Centre Court.
Paolini, 28, surpassed the achievements of fellow Italians Camila Giorgi, Francesca Schiavone, Silvia Farina Elia, and Laura Golarsa, all of whom previously reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon but fell short of the semifinals.

The match began with Navarro, 23, taking the first break with a powerful forehand in the third game. However, Paolini responded swiftly, ramping up the pressure with heavy baseline exchanges to seize control and take a 5-2 lead in the first set. Mixing up her shots effectively, the Italian secured the first set in quick fashion.
Despite Navarro’s efforts to mount a comeback, including two break points in the third game of the second set, Paolini remained steadfast, saving crucial points and extending her lead. She exhibited composure and skill, ultimately sealing the match when Navarro sent a shot wide.
Looking ahead to the semifinals, Paolini will face experienced Croatian player Donna Vekic, who earlier overcame New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 victory. “In the semifinals, you have to play tough opponents, and she’s playing amazing,” Paolini said of Vekic. “I hope to enjoy the next match, to give 100%, and I’m going to fight for every ball.”
