Manchester United Extends Erik ten Hag’s Contract Through 2026

Erik ten Hag will remain at the helm of Manchester United until 2026, as the club announced on Thursday the extension of his contract. The Dutch manager’s current deal was set to expire in 2025, but United opted to trigger a one-year extension, solidifying their commitment to his leadership.

“I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together,” Ten Hag expressed. “Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.”

Under Ten Hag’s guidance, Manchester United has seen significant progress. In the past two seasons, the team secured 68 wins out of 114 games and earned notable accolades, including the EFL Cup title in the 2022-23 season. They also achieved a third-place finish in the Premier League that year. Last season, notwithstanding an eighth-place league finish, United triumphed in the FA Cup by defeating league champions Manchester City.

The extension allows Ten Hag to retain the transfer veto he was granted upon his arrival in 2022, signaling the club’s trust in his strategic vision. This move is expected to bring stability to the squad and could have ripple effects in international football, given Manchester United’s global fanbase, including significant support across Asia.
