In a commanding display, Colombia secured their spot in the Copa America quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica on Friday. The match, held at State Farm Stadium, saw Los Cafeteros outclass their opponents in front of 27,386 enthusiastic fans.

Colombia took control early, maintaining 62% possession and pressuring the Costa Rican defense. Luis Diaz opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 31st minute after Jhon Córdoba was brought down at the edge of the penalty area by goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira.

The second half continued in Colombia’s favor. Davinson Sánchez doubled the lead, followed by Jhon Córdoba’s goal just three minutes later, effectively sealing the game. Colombia outshot Costa Rica 14-5, and the Costa Ricans failed to register a single shot on goal.

“Today was a game we dominated from start to finish,” said Colombia coach Néstor Lorenzo. “Our players executed the game plan perfectly.”

Costa Rica, despite a surprising scoreless draw against nine-time Copa America champions Brazil in their previous match, struggled to keep pace with Colombia’s intensity. Coach Gustavo Alfaro acknowledged the disparity, stating, “The other team was clearly on another level.”

With this win, Colombia extends their unbeaten streak to 25 games since their last defeat in 2022 against Argentina in a World Cup qualifier. They have won ten consecutive matches, showcasing their formidable form ahead of their upcoming group-stage finale against Brazil in Santa Clara, California.

As the Copa America heats up, Colombia’s performance positions them as strong contenders for the title, capturing the attention of football fans worldwide.
