China’s women’s rugby sevens team has secured their place at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris after a commanding 24-7 victory over Kenya in the final of the World Rugby Sevens Repechage held in Monaco on Sunday.
Demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork, the Chinese team dominated the tournament, winning all six of their matches. Their journey to the final included a resounding 31-0 victory over Paraguay and a decisive 40-7 win against Poland in the knockout rounds.
“We are feeling really good; we are so excited to go to Paris,” expressed Chen Keyi after the triumph. “I think we deserve it; we work so hard for each other, on and off the field.”
Her teammate, Liu Xiaoqian, echoed the sentiment, saying, “We are so proud of ourselves; we are so proud of our teammates; and we are so proud of our coaches.”

In the men’s competition, South Africa clinched their Olympic berth by overcoming Great Britain with a 14-5 victory in the final. “It’s a pretty special group we have here; just to cherish the moment is what we’re living for,” said Tristan Leyds of the South African team. Rosko Specman added, “It’s pretty special to play in an Olympics.”
