China’s women’s volleyball team has secured their place in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris after a decisive 3-0 victory over Germany at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) on Friday. The match took place in south China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, where the Chinese team showcased their dominance with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-18.
Leading the team to victory, Yuan Xinyue and Li Yingying each contributed 13 points. Veteran player Zhu Ting added 12 points, including a pivotal spike in the first set that set the tone for the match. Wang Yuanyuan also made a significant impact with 10 points.
“We never doubted our qualification for Paris,” said Cai Bin, head coach of China, during the post-match press conference. “Claiming the Olympic spot is only the first step; we will continue to refine our performance.”
Cai praised Zhu Ting’s influence on the team, noting, “Zhu is a very experienced player, and her control of the pace in the match was significant.”
Reflecting on the team’s achievement, player Gong Xiangyu expressed both joy and determination. “We are so glad to return to the Olympics,” she said. “But we will continue to focus on preparing for the next two VNL matches and give our best in them.”
The Chinese team is set to face Türkiye on Sunday and Poland on Monday as they continue their VNL campaign.
