Spain’s tennis legends are set to make a formidable team at the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Newly crowned French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz will join forces with veteran star Rafael Nadal, a record 14-time winner at Roland Garros, representing Spain in both singles and doubles competitions.

The Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) confirmed the news during an event in Barcelona on Wednesday. Alongside Nadal and Alcaraz, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Pablo Carreño Busta, and Marcel Granollers have also been named in the national team.

Team captain David Ferrer announced that Nadal and Alcaraz would not only compete individually in the singles events but would also partner for the doubles. “Rafa and Carlos will play together in Paris if nothing impedes it,” Ferrer stated, emphasizing that the Olympics hold significant importance.

Ferrer also confirmed that Nadal, who has declared the 2024 season as his last, will skip Wimbledon this summer. “Nadal will be in good condition for the Olympics, and he is preparing carefully. Rafa is not going to play at Wimbledon,” said the captain.

Nadal’s Olympic journey began 16 years ago when he secured a gold medal in singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He added another gold to his collection in the doubles event at the 2016 Rio Games, partnering with Marc López.

The pairing of Nadal and Alcaraz is highly anticipated by fans worldwide. Alcaraz, the rising star who recently claimed his first French Open title, will have the opportunity to play alongside his idol and mentor. Their collaboration promises to bring an exciting dynamic to the court, highlighting Spain’s strong presence in international tennis.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are set to be a significant event for the tennis world, with top athletes from around the globe competing for Olympic glory. Spain’s announcement adds to the growing excitement as the Games approach.
