Twin sisters Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi from Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province, are set to make waves at the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The dynamic duo will compete together in the artistic swimming event, striving to stand atop the Olympic podium as a united force.
The sisters joined the Chinese national team in 2017, quickly demonstrating exceptional potential as a pair. Their synchronicity and artistry captivated audiences and judges alike, and they have continuously honed their performances since then. However, their journey faced a setback when Wang Liuyi suffered an injury in 2019, forcing her to exit the national team.
Undeterred, Wang Qianyi remained on the team and contributed to China’s success at the delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021, where the team secured a silver medal. In the duet event, Huang Xuechen and Sun Wenyan represented China and also finished as runners-up.
Having experienced the honor of representing her country on the Olympic stage, Wang Qianyi is more determined than ever to share that experience with her sister. “Sis, you and I must stand on the Olympic podium together,” she told Wang Liuyi. “I think that’s what matters the most in life. Let’s put everything else aside.”
Reunited after two years apart, the twins quickly regained their seamless coordination. Their hard work and dedication paid off at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where they claimed gold medals in both the duet technical and duet free routines.
As they prepare for Paris 2024, the sisters are focused on perfecting their routines and inspiring audiences worldwide with their artistry and perseverance.
