China’s Under-19 men’s football team secured the Huashan Cup title with a commanding 2-0 victory over South Korea on Monday. Hosted by the Chinese Football Association, the invitational tournament showcased emerging talents from across Asia.
The match remained goalless until the 77th minute when Liu Chengyu broke the deadlock with a close-range header. The 17-year-old striker struck again in the 90th minute, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack to double China’s lead.
“This victory is a positive step for our players’ development. They did a great job tonight and throughout the tournament,” said China’s coach Dejan Djurdjevic. He emphasized the importance of continuous improvement as the team prepares for the AFC U20 Asian Cup in 2025, for which China has automatically qualified as hosts.
In another match on Monday, Murodjon Komilov’s goal in the 93rd minute helped Uzbekistan edge past Vietnam 2-1. Uzbekistan finished second in the tournament with one win and two draws, while Vietnam experienced their third consecutive defeat at the Weinan Sports Center Stadium in Shaanxi Province.
