Luka Modric has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Real Madrid, keeping the Croatian veteran midfielder at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium until 2024, as reported by The Athletic on Sunday.
The 38-year-old will reportedly accept a lower salary in his new deal. Despite facing increased competition for midfield positions, Modric remains a pivotal figure in the squad, offering invaluable experience and leadership.
Since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in August 2012, Modric has made over 500 appearances, scoring 37 goals and providing 77 assists. His contributions have been critical in securing numerous titles, including three La Liga championships and five UEFA Champions League trophies among other honors.
Modric’s partnership with German midfielder Toni Kroos has been fundamental to Real Madrid’s success over the past decade. Both players have extended their contracts through 2024, ensuring their presence in the heart of Los Blancos’ midfield for another season.
