Rafael Nadal Uncertain If 2024 French Open Will Be His Last

Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, has expressed uncertainty about whether the upcoming 2024 French Open will be his final appearance at the prestigious tournament. In response to a reporter’s question on Saturday, Nadal said, “Don’t assume that,” when asked if 2024 would mark his last participation at Roland Garros.

The Spanish tennis legend acknowledged the possibility, stating, “It’s a big, big chance that it’s going to be my last Roland Garros,” but he cautioned against any definitive conclusions. “But if I have to tell you it’s 100 percent my last Roland Garros? Sorry, but I will not. Because I cannot predict what’s going on,” Nadal added.

Nadal, who will turn 38 on June 3, has faced numerous injuries over the past two years, limiting his time on the court. His struggles with fitness have led to reduced participation in tournaments, and he has publicly hinted that 2024 could be his final year in professional tennis.

The “King of Clay” has an unparalleled record at the French Open, having won the title 14 times since his debut in 2005. However, he was unable to compete in the 2023 tournament due to hip surgery, marking his first absence from Roland Garros in his illustrious career. So far in 2024, Nadal has played 11 matches, winning seven of them.

Nadal’s potential retirement signals the end of an era in tennis, and fans around the world are watching closely as he navigates the twilight of his career. His contributions to the sport, particularly on clay courts, have solidified his legacy as one of the greatest tennis players of all time.
