Team China’s badminton players made a strong start on the opening day of the 2024 Malaysia Masters on Tuesday, showcasing their dominance in the doubles events.
In the women’s doubles, the duo of Keng Shuliang and Zhang Chi delivered an impressive performance, defeating Hung Yi-Ting and Lee Yu-Hsuan from the Chinese Taipei team with a straight-set victory of 21-14, 21-15. Their teammates, Li Yijing and Luo Xumin, also advanced to the last 16 by overcoming Cheng Yu-Pei and Sun Yu-Hsing of Chinese Taipei with scores of 21-10, 21-18.
On the men’s side, the third-seeded pair of He Jiting and Ren Xiangyu showcased exceptional skill and coordination. They secured their place in the second round by defeating Chang Ko-Chi and Po Li-Wei, also from Chinese Taipei, with a scoreline of 21-12, 23-21.
However, not all Chinese pairs advanced. Xie Haonan and Zeng Weihan faced a challenging match against Malaysia’s Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King, resulting in a 21-16, 21-12 defeat.
The Malaysia Masters, which commenced on May 21 and runs until May 26, is a crucial tournament for teams looking to enhance their international rankings. The points earned here will contribute to the seeding for the upcoming Paris Olympics in two months, making every match significant.
