German football legend Toni Kroos has announced he will retire from professional football after the UEFA European Championship in 2024. The 34-year-old midfielder shared his decision on Instagram on Tuesday, marking the end of an illustrious career spanning over a decade.

“After 10 years, at the end of the season, this chapter comes to an end,” Kroos wrote. “I would particularly like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one.”

Kroos, a key figure in Germany’s 2014 FIFA World Cup victory in Brazil, has been a stalwart in both club and international football. He has earned 107 caps for the German national team, scoring 17 goals and providing 21 assists across various competitions. Initially retiring from international play in July 2021, Kroos made a surprise return in February to participate in Euro 2024, set to begin on June 14.
