Mike Sullivan, head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins, has been appointed to lead Team USA for the upcoming 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off in the United States and Canada, as well as the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The announcement was made by USA Hockey on Saturday.
“We’re excited to have Mike guiding our teams,” said Bill Guerin, general manager of Team USA for both events. “He is one of the very best coaches in the game and his background, including with international hockey, is well-suited to help put our team in the best position to win.”
Pat Kelleher, Executive Director of USA Hockey, added, “Mike Sullivan is not only a great coach, but someone who has a strong passion for American hockey. He’s a world-class leader and has been an important part of hockey in our country for a very long time.”
Sullivan’s appointment comes as anticipation builds for the Winter Olympics, where ice hockey is a marquee event drawing global attention. Under his leadership, Team USA aims to compete fiercely on the international stage, possibly facing strong contenders from Asia, including teams from countries like the Republic of Korea and Japan, where ice hockey is gaining popularity.
With extensive experience in both the NHL and international competitions, Sullivan’s strategic acumen and leadership are expected to elevate Team USA’s performance, inspiring fans and fostering a deeper appreciation for ice hockey worldwide.
