Hundreds of athletes from across the globe converged on Jiangyan in Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province, the Chinese mainland, for the 2024 Asia Triathlon Cup Taizhou and National Triathlon Champions Cup Series held on May 11 and 12. The event served as a crucial qualifier for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, with competitors vying for valuable points to secure their spots.
Representing 12 countries and regions, including China, Australia, Kazakhstan, Ireland, and Iceland, athletes faced off in a grueling test of endurance and skill. In the men’s Asian Cup, an athlete from Ireland secured first place, demonstrating exceptional performance against a strong field. Teng Yunfeng, representing the China triathlon team, delivered a commendable performance, finishing sixth and earning important points towards Olympic qualification.
In the women’s competition of the Asian Cup Excellent Group, Poland’s Roksana Slupek claimed the top position with a remarkable display of athleticism. China’s Wu Qing followed closely, achieving a strong second-place finish and bolstering her chances for Olympic contention.
The competition also featured events across various age groups, including U19, U17, U15, and U13 categories. On May 12, the series continued with mixed relay competitions, fostering teamwork and showcasing emerging talent from the region.
