Sweden’s pole vault superstar Armand Duplantis secured victory at the World Athletics Diamond League meet in Suzhou on Saturday, clearing a height of 6.00 meters. Despite winning the event, Duplantis narrowly missed setting a new world record, following his remarkable performance just a week earlier in Xiamen, southeast China’s Fujian Province.
The 24-year-old athlete, who has been redefining the limits of the pole vault, attempted to surpass his own world record by clearing 6.25 meters. After three close attempts, Duplantis was unable to clear the bar but set a meet record with his 6.00-meter jump, earning him consecutive titles in the opening events of the new Diamond League season.
Last week in Xiamen, Duplantis refreshed the world record for the eighth time, achieving a height of 6.24 meters and adding one centimeter to his previous record of 6.23 meters, set at the Diamond League Final in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
Duplantis’s continued excellence highlights his dominance in the sport and sets an exciting tone for the upcoming competitions. His performances in China have captivated fans and underscored the global appeal of athletics in the region.
