Xinjiang’s Abdusalam Abdurexit Crowned CBA MVP, Leading Team’s Remarkable Rise

Xinjiang Flying Tigers forward Abdusalam Abdurexit has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2023-24 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) regular season, marking a significant milestone in his career and a triumphant moment for his team.

Abdusalam received 471 points in the MVP voting, including 65 first-place votes out of a possible 145 from media representatives, securing the league’s top individual honor.

Playing in all 52 regular-season games, with 51 starts, the forward averaged impressive statistics of 19 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. His outstanding performance was instrumental in propelling the Xinjiang Flying Tigers from a 17th place finish last season to becoming the runner-up in this year’s campaign.

The team’s remarkable turnaround was also recognized with Xinjiang head coach Qiu Biao being named Coach of the Year, highlighting the collective effort and strategic excellence that defined their season.

Other notable awardees included Shenzhen Aviators forward Jared Sullinger, who earned the Best Foreign Player award with averages of 21.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.

Promising Qingdao Eagles center Yang Hansen made a significant impact by clinching both the Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, showcasing his defensive prowess and potential as a rising star in the league.

Wu Qian of the Zhejiang Golden Bulls was recognized as the Sixth Man of the Year, while Shanghai Sharks sophomore forward Li Hongquan received the Most Improved Player award, reflecting his significant development over the season.

The 2023-24 CBA season was marked by outstanding individual achievements and team efforts, underscoring the growing talent and competitiveness within the league.
