Chinese artistic swimmers shone brightly on Saturday, capturing three gold medals on the second day of the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming World Cup in Beijing. Their stellar performance keeps them atop the medal tally with a total of six golds and one silver during this first leg of the competition.
Eighteen-year-old sensation Xu Huiyan achieved a remarkable three-peat, securing the women's solo free title following her victories in the solo technical and team technical events the previous day. Xu delivered a captivating performance, topping the podium with 33.5188 points, well ahead of Spain's Isabel Cui and the Netherlands' Marloes Steenbeek.
"The three gold medals truly inspire me to forge ahead," Xu said with a smile. "I'm continuously improving through world-level events this year. For the women's duet free event tomorrow, I will focus on synchronizing with my partner and maintaining the rhythm."
Isabel Cui, who earned silver, expressed her excitement about competing in Beijing. "I started practicing artistic swimming at the age of eight, beginning with about three hours a week and gradually increasing to three hours a day," said Cui, who was born in Spain to Chinese parents. "Competing in the Olympic venue, the Water Cube, is thrilling. My relatives in the Chinese mainland also came to cheer for me."
With their outstanding performances, the Chinese team continues to demonstrate their dominance in artistic swimming on the world stage, setting high expectations for the upcoming events.
