Speaking at a news conference, Alonso addressed the rumors surrounding his potential departure. “It has been a season with a lot of speculation regarding my future,” he said. “I wanted to use the international break to reflect a little bit better and to make a decision. Last week, I had a good meeting with Simon Rolfes, our sporting director, and Fernando Carro, the club’s CEO, where I informed them of my decision to continue being coach of Bayer Leverkusen.”
The former Spanish international emphasized the importance of making thoughtful career choices. “For sure, all decisions need to be analyzed well, and I tried to make the right ones,” Alonso added. “I aim to take decisions that come naturally, and at this moment, I feel this is the right place for me to develop as a coach. I am a young coach, but I have to feel it, and right now, I feel that this is the right place.”
