Ireland retained their Six Nations title with a gritty 17-13 win over Scotland at Lansdowne Road in Dublin on Saturday.
Flanker Peter O’Mahony, captaining the team, celebrated his fifth Six Nations winners medal and his first as captain. Reflecting on the match, O’Mahony suggested that if this victory marked his final game for Ireland, it would be a fitting way to conclude his international career. “If Saturday’s Six Nations-clinching win over Scotland proves to be my last game for my country, it would not be a bad way to go out,” he said.
O’Mahony succeeded Johnny Sexton as skipper in January, taking over at the tail end of Sexton’s remarkable career, which has spanned 12 years and 105 internationals. His leadership has been instrumental in securing back-to-back titles for Ireland.
Meanwhile, France secured second place in the championship, rounding off a competitive Six Nations tournament.
