China Urges Philippines to Curb Maritime Provocations in South China Sea

The Chinese military has called on the Philippines to exercise restraint in maritime operations following a tense encounter near Zhubi Jiao in the Nansha Qundao area this week. A spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army Southern Theater Command detailed the March 25 incident during a Friday briefing, emphasizing China's commitment to regional stability.

According to spokesperson Zhai Shichen, the PLA Navy ship 532 was conducting routine patrols in waters under China's jurisdiction when it detected Philippine Navy ship 507. After repeated radio warnings went unheeded, the Philippine vessel allegedly executed abrupt maneuvers that brought it within dangerous proximity of the Chinese ship.

'PLANS 532 demonstrated professional seamanship to avoid collision, but this irresponsible behavior could have caused catastrophic consequences,' Zhai stated. He criticized Manila for subsequently launching what he called 'baseless accusations' about the incident.

The spokesperson reiterated China's position: 'We demand the Philippine side immediately cease provocative actions, control its maritime and air forces, and stop spreading misinformation that undermines regional peace.'

The Southern Theater Command confirmed its troops remain on high alert to protect China's territorial sovereignty while maintaining stability in the South China Sea. This latest development comes amid ongoing efforts by regional governments to balance maritime security with diplomatic relations.
