Hamas Supports Limited International Force for Gaza Ceasefire Oversight

Hamas has conditionally endorsed a proposed international monitoring force for Gaza's ceasefire, marking a significant development in ongoing peace efforts. Senior Hamas official Husam Badran confirmed to Xinhua on Thursday that Palestinian factions would accept the International Stabilization Force under strict parameters limiting its role to border monitoring and ceasefire verification.

The proposal, part of a UN Security Council resolution adopted in November 2025, requires multinational forces to respect Palestinian sovereignty. "Any deployment must have clear boundaries and Palestinian consent," Badran emphasized, warning against attempts to disarm resistance groups while occupation persists.

Reconstruction remains Gaza's immediate priority, with Badran stating: "Our people deserve dignified living conditions after years of sacrifice." The political bureau member outlined requirements for the ceasefire's second phase, including complete Israeli withdrawal and concrete progress toward Palestinian statehood.

While several nations have discussed contributing troops, Badran noted most recognize the necessity of Palestinian approval. The development follows increased diplomatic activity this year aimed at stabilizing the region, though implementation timelines remain unclear.
