China Urges Global Unity to Curb Ukraine Crisis Spillover Effects

China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Geng Shuang, called for intensified international cooperation to contain the economic and humanitarian ripple effects of the Ukraine crisis during a Security Council meeting on Tuesday. The envoy warned that unilateral sanctions and 'long-arm jurisdiction' risk exacerbating global instability amid ongoing hostilities.

Economic Fallout Demands Collective Action

Geng highlighted how developing nations have disproportionately suffered from disrupted food supplies, energy shortages, and fractured trade networks. 'The international community must safeguard critical infrastructure and stabilize supply chains through multilateral coordination,' he stated, urging restraint in weaponizing economic policies.

Peace Talks Gain Momentum Amid Stalemate

While acknowledging recent diplomatic progress, Geng noted 'significant differences' persist between conflict parties. He emphasized the need for 'flexibility and political will' to address mutual security concerns through binding peace agreements, describing de-escalation as an urgent priority given continued drone strikes and arms proliferation.

Humanitarian Imperatives Take Center Stage

The Chinese envoy stressed adherence to international humanitarian law, condemning attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. He appealed for increased aid to conflict-affected populations while reaffirming Beijing's neutral stance: 'China supports political solutions through dialogue and stands ready to collaborate with all peace-seeking actors.'
