China's trade with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states has surged to $2.3 trillion, surpassing expectations ahead of schedule, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the 2025 SCO Summit in Tianjin. The milestone underscores deepening economic ties across the Eurasian bloc.
Xi emphasized that China and SCO partners pioneered Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) collaborations, with over 14,000 kilometers of international transport routes now operational. The China-Europe Railway Express alone has completed more than 110,000 freight trips, creating what Xi called "arteries of prosperity" linking East and West.
"From energy pipelines to smart agriculture, our 'small but impactful' projects are transforming livelihoods," Xi stated, highlighting infrastructure development as key to regional stability. Analysts note the figures position the SCO as a counterweight to Western-led economic blocs.
The summit comes as SCO members – representing 40% of the global population – seek to streamline customs procedures and digital payment systems. With India and Pakistan attending as full members, observers anticipate new agreements on green energy and food security.
