IAEA Urges Restraint Amid Rising Tensions Over Iran Nuclear Facilities

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi issued a stark warning to the United Nations Security Council on Friday, urging 'maximum restraint' following reports of Israeli military actions targeting Iranian nuclear facilities. The call comes amid escalating regional tensions and fears of broader conflict.

'Any military action that jeopardizes nuclear facilities risks grave consequences for the people of Iran, the region, and beyond,' Grossi stated, emphasizing that attacks on peaceful nuclear infrastructure violate international law and the IAEA statute. He confirmed the agency is monitoring Iran's nuclear sites in real-time through its Incident and Emergency Center, maintaining direct communication with Iranian authorities since the attacks began.

The IAEA chief announced the creation of a dedicated task force to assess potential safety risks, underscoring the agency's readiness to provide technical support. Grossi stressed that dialogue remains the only sustainable path forward: 'The IAEA stands as a vital forum for transparency and peaceful resolution of nuclear-related issues.'

While avoiding direct attribution of responsibility, Grossi reiterated that all nations must prioritize the protection of nuclear facilities, which are 'devoted to peaceful purposes' under international safeguards. The developments highlight growing concerns over regional stability and the broader implications for global nuclear security frameworks.
