China has voiced strong support for a United Nations General Assembly resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and expanded humanitarian aid delivery, calling it a critical step to address the worsening crisis. The resolution, adopted Thursday with 149 votes in favor, reflects a global consensus to halt violence and prioritize civilian protection, said Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the UN.
Fu emphasized the urgency of ending Israel's military operations in Gaza, stating, "Whatever pretext will not make killing civilians noble or just." He criticized the U.S. for blocking a similar Security Council resolution last week and urged countries with "significant influence" to act responsibly to de-escalate tensions.
The envoy condemned the growing humanitarian catastrophe, noting that "massive amounts of food" remain stranded at Gaza's borders while famine looms. "China firmly opposes the weaponization of humanitarian aid," Fu declared, demanding Israel lift its blockade and allow unimpeded access to life-saving supplies.
Despite multiple UN resolutions and International Court of Justice orders, Fu lamented the lack of progress in implementing ceasefire agreements. He called for full compliance with international law and accountability for violations, stressing that "the right to subsistence" must be upheld for all civilians.
China pledged to collaborate with the international community to achieve a "comprehensive, just, and lasting" resolution to the Palestinian issue, framing the crisis as a test of global commitment to multilateralism.
