Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to promoting regional stability during a Saturday phone call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, described China as “a neighbor of both Pakistan and India,” expressing concern over escalating tensions between the two nations.
“China hopes for and supports an early ceasefire … and is willing to continue playing a constructive role in this regard,” Wang stated. He emphasized that Beijing believes Pakistan will respond to the situation “with calm” while safeguarding its sovereignty and long-term interests.
Dar acknowledged Pakistan’s willingness to pursue a ceasefire with India, stressing readiness to address violations of territorial integrity. The discussion also touched on counterterrorism cooperation, with Wang noting Pakistan’s frontline role in global anti-terror efforts and pledging China’s continued support.
The dialogue underscores China’s growing diplomatic engagement in South Asia amid heightened regional security challenges. Analysts suggest Beijing’s unique position as a neighbor to both nuclear-armed states could facilitate backchannel negotiations.
