China has strongly criticized a resolution passed by the European Parliament regarding Xizang, accusing EU lawmakers of spreading false narratives and interfering in its internal affairs. A spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the European Union expressed “firm opposition” on Friday, urging Brussels to cease politicizing human rights issues to undermine China’s sovereignty.
The resolution, which addresses governance and development policies in Xizang, was labeled a distortion of the region’s “peaceful progress and social stability” by Chinese officials. Beijing emphasized that Xizang-related affairs are strictly China’s domestic concern and highlighted recent socioeconomic advancements, including poverty alleviation and cultural preservation efforts.
“The European Parliament must abandon its ideological bias and objectively view China’s achievements in protecting the rights of all ethnic groups,” the spokesperson stated. China called for mutual respect to stabilize bilateral ties amid rising geopolitical tensions, stressing that “healthy China-EU relations require concrete actions, not symbolic provocations.”
