Xi Jinping, Vietnam’s To Lam Strengthen Bilateral Ties in Hanoi Meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, held high-level talks with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, in Hanoi on Monday, reinforcing commitments to regional stability and economic collaboration.

The leaders emphasized enhancing strategic partnerships under the shared principles of socialism, with Xi underscoring the importance of 'win-win cooperation in trade, infrastructure, and green energy.' To Lam affirmed Vietnam's alignment with China's vision for a 'peaceful, prosperous Asian community.'

The meeting marked the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, with bilateral trade reaching $230 billion in 2023. Discussions included plans to expand cross-border railway connectivity and reduce non-tariff barriers for agricultural goods.

Academics note the talks signal a recalibration of Vietnam's economic priorities amid shifting global supply chains, while cultural initiatives like a jointly funded Lunar New Year festival aim to deepen people-to-people ties.
