China, Finland Strengthen Legislative Ties Amid 75th Anniversary Diplomacy

China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Finnish Parliament Speaker Jussi Halla-aho in Beijing on Monday, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations during the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

As chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, Zhao emphasized implementing crucial agreements between Chinese and Finnish leaders to advance their "future-oriented, new-type cooperative partnership." Discussions focused on creating stable legal frameworks to support practical collaboration in trade, technology, and sustainability initiatives.

"China's ongoing reforms and high-level opening-up present fresh opportunities for international partners," Zhao noted, highlighting plans to enhance cultural exchanges and youth engagement programs. The dialogue underscored Beijing's call for Helsinki to maintain adherence to the one-China principle, described as vital for maintaining mutual political trust.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing commitment to deepen parliamentary exchanges, positioning legislative cooperation as a cornerstone for economic and cultural partnership development. Analysts view this dialogue as part of broader efforts to strengthen China-Europe connectivity through Nordic partnerships.
