China Slams U.S. Tariffs on Venezuelan Oil Imports, Urges Dialogue

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has condemned new U.S. tariffs targeting countries importing Venezuelan oil, calling the measures a violation of international norms. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun criticized Washington’s 25% levy as part of a pattern of "illegal unilateral sanctions" and "long-arm jurisdiction," arguing such actions disrupt global economic stability.

U.S. President Donald Trump signed the executive order this week, escalating tensions in a years-long campaign to pressure Venezuela’s government. Guo emphasized that trade restrictions ultimately harm American consumers and businesses, stating: "Trade wars and tariff wars yield no winners."

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, meanwhile, vowed to prioritize economic recovery through increased production and exports. His televised remarks highlighted ongoing efforts to stabilize the oil-dependent economy amid U.S. sanctions.

China has consistently opposed external interference in Venezuela’s affairs, advocating instead for dialogue. The latest developments underscore growing friction between Beijing and Washington over policy approaches to Latin America’s energy markets.
