U.S. and Ukraine Launch High-Stakes Peace Talks in Saudi Arabia

High-level delegations from the United States and Ukraine commenced critical negotiations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, aiming to address the ongoing Ukraine crisis. The discussions focus on a potential peace agreement framework, preliminary ceasefire terms, and a U.S.-Ukraine deal involving critical minerals cooperation.

The U.S. delegation, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, joined Ukrainian counterparts including Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak. U.S. Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff highlighted optimism ahead of the talks, stating, "We anticipate substantial progress" and signaling hopes for a minerals deal this week.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Secretary Rubio on Monday, reinforcing the Kingdom’s role in supporting international peace efforts. Zelenskyy praised Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic involvement as pivotal to regional stability.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized coordination with U.S. counterparts, urging progress to unlock paused aid to Ukraine. British officials reaffirmed commitments to a "lasting peace" following weekend consultations with Kyiv.
