Zelenskyy: Ceasefire Without Security Guarantees Would Fail

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that a ceasefire without robust security guarantees would not bring a lasting end to Russia's invasion. Speaking to British media after talks with European allies in London, Zelenskyy emphasized that such a truce is \"not enough.\"

French President Emmanuel Macron recently proposed a one-month truce encompassing air, sea, and energy infrastructure, though it initially excludes ground combat. Zelenskyy warned that without serious security assurances, a ceasefire would eventually collapse, leading to retaliation from Ukraine.

Despite Zelenskyy's cautious optimism about the \"very powerful start\" to negotiations, UK Minister for the Armed Forces Luke Pollard has yet to confirm Macron's stance, indicating that discussions are still ongoing. Meanwhile, UK leader Keir Starmer mentioned that European leaders are working on a peace plan to present to the United States.

The situation remains tense following a recent White House meeting where U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized Zelenskyy, leading to heightened political friction. Zelenskyy has reiterated his commitment to staying as Ukraine's leader, stating that replacing him would be challenging amidst the current conflict.

As international discussions continue, the European Union is set to hold an extraordinary summit on March 6 to further address support for Ukraine, security guarantees, and the financing of Europe's defense needs.
