Ramallah, January 2025 — The Palestinian presidency on Monday accused Israel of engaging in \"ethnic cleansing\" in the West Bank amid escalating tensions and military activities in the region.
Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for the Palestinian presidency, stated in an official press release distributed by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, \"The Israeli aggressive policies in the West Bank have led to the killing of 29 citizens, with hundreds wounded and arrested, in addition to the destruction of entire residential blocks in the Jenin and Tulkarm camps, the displacement of thousands, and the massive destruction of infrastructure.\"
Abu Rudeineh called upon the United States to intervene immediately to halt the ongoing Israeli operations. He warned that the continued aggression against Palestinian people and land \"will lead to an explosion of the situation.\"
Since January 21, the Israeli military has been conducting a large-scale campaign named \"Iron Wall\" in the West Bank's Jenin and Tulkarm regions. The campaign aims to dismantle what Israeli authorities describe as \"terrorist groups\" and to maintain military control over the occupied territory. On Sunday, the Israeli military announced the expansion of the campaign into the northern occupied West Bank.
Mohammed Jarrar, mayor of Jenin, reported that approximately 15,000 residents have been displaced from the Jenin camp due to the ongoing military operations. He described the attack on the city of Jenin and its camp as the most severe in the city's history.
Similarly, Tulkarm Governor Abdullah Kamil stated that 48 percent of the residents of the Tulkarm camp have been displaced as a result of the campaign.
The Ramallah-based Palestinian Health Ministry reported on Monday that 70 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army in the West Bank since January 2025.
The escalating conflict has raised international concerns over the humanitarian situation in the West Bank. Observers warn that without immediate intervention and a return to dialogue, the region may face further instability and violence.
