Israel Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen, Killing Six

Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Thursday targeting the Houthi movement in Yemen, resulting in the deaths of at least six people, according to Houthi media. The strikes hit multiple locations, including Sanaa International Airport and key ports along Yemen’s west coast.

World Health Organization head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reported that he was preparing to board a plane at Sanaa International Airport when it came under attack. “A crew member on the plane was injured,” he stated, highlighting the escalating risks to international organizations operating in the region.

The Israeli military confirmed the operations, stating that in addition to the airport, they struck military infrastructure at the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib. Power stations in Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib were also targeted, aiming to disrupt the Houthi movement’s capabilities.

Yemen’s Saba news agency reported that three individuals were killed at the airport and another three in Hodeidah, with 40 others wounded across the attacked sites.

In response, the Houthi movement declared its readiness to retaliate. Houthi-run Al Masirah TV quoted officials saying they are prepared to “meet escalation with escalation,” signaling a potential increase in regional tensions.

The Houthis have previously launched drones and missiles toward Israel, expressing solidarity with the Palestinians amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a joint statement following the strikes. Katz emphasized Israel’s intent to “hunt down all the Houthi leaders and strike them, just as we have done elsewhere.” He added, “No one will escape Israel’s long arm. We will strike them to eliminate threats against Israel.”
