On Thursday, Israel launched airstrikes targeting multiple Houthi-linked sites in Yemen, including the Sanaa International Airport, resulting in at least six fatalities, according to Houthi media sources.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization, reported that he was about to board a plane at the airport when it came under attack. “A crew member on the plane was injured,” he stated.
The Israeli military announced that, in addition to the airport, it struck military infrastructure at the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib on Yemen’s west coast. The Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations were also targeted.
Yemen’s Saba news agency reported that three people were killed in the strikes on the airport and another three in Hodeidah, with 40 others wounded in the attacks.
Later on Thursday, the Houthis declared their readiness to respond swiftly to the assault, vowing to “meet escalation with escalation,” as reported by Houthi-run Al Masirah TV.
The Houthis have repeatedly launched drones and missiles towards Israel in a show of support and solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
Following the airstrikes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz pledged in a joint video statement to eliminate Houthi leaders and dismantle the group’s military capabilities.
“We will hunt down all the Houthi leaders and strike them, just as we have done elsewhere,” Katz declared. “No one will escape Israel’s long arm. We will strike them to eliminate threats against Israel,” he added.
