The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Monday called on the Philippines to withdraw the U.S. mid-range missile system deployed on its territory, emphasizing the need for regional peace and stability.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the statement during a regular press briefing in response to reports about the United States deploying its Typhon mid-range missile system in the Philippines. She stated that China has repeatedly expressed firm opposition to this development.
“Accepting the missile system—a strategic and offensive weapon—by the Philippine side is a provocative and dangerous move,” Mao Ning said. “It cooperates with external forces to create regional tension and confrontation, provoking geopolitical confrontation and an arms race.”
Mao Ning urged the Philippines to correct its course, emphasizing that the region needs peace and prosperity instead of mid-range missiles and heightened tensions. “We urge the Philippine side to correct its wrongdoings and withdraw the missile system at an early date,” she added.
