Israel Intensifies Airstrikes in Syria Amid Regional Shifts

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Sunday that he has held discussions with United States President-elect Donald Trump, focusing on the evolving situation in Syria and other critical regional issues.

During their conversation, Netanyahu highlighted significant shifts in the Middle East landscape. He claimed that Israeli operations in Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen, and Syria have curtailed Iran’s influence over the past year.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Israel does not seek direct confrontation with Syria but noted that future policies will be shaped by the changing realities on the ground.

“Within a few days, we destroyed capabilities that the Assad regime had built over decades,” Netanyahu said, referring to recent Israeli airstrikes following the collapse of the Assad government in Syria on December 8.

He reiterated that the strikes aimed to prevent weapons from being used against Israel or transferred from Syria to Hezbollah.

On Sunday, Israeli warplanes launched multiple airstrikes targeting former military arsenals across Syria, according to a war monitor. The latest raids struck missile bases in Battalion 107 near Zama and weapons warehouses in rural Tartus.

Earlier that evening, an Israeli jet reportedly hit radar installations at the Deir al-Zour Military Airport in eastern Syria. Additional airstrikes targeted former munitions depots embedded in the mountains of rural Damascus, causing a series of powerful explosions. There were no reports of casualties.
