Egyptian FM and Blinken Discuss Path to Stability in Syria

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty received a call from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday night to discuss the recent developments in Syria, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday.

During the conversation, both sides emphasized the importance of initiating a comprehensive political process that includes all Syrian national components and parties. They agreed that such an inclusive approach is crucial for restoring stability and unity in Syria.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He expressed Egypt’s rejection of Israel’s control over the demilitarized buffer zone in the Golan Heights and other neighboring positions, labeling it an occupation of Syrian territories and a blatant violation of international law.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in stopping any aggression against Syria.

U.S. Secretary of State Blinken highlighted the “historic opportunity” for the Syrian people to build a better future. He reiterated the need for all actors in Syria to respect human rights, protect religious and ethnic minorities, and uphold international humanitarian law, as stated by the U.S. State Department.
